Thinking globally,
acting locally
What is Strong Towns?
Originally established in 2008 to address local concerns about poor city planning, Strong Towns has grown into an international movement that has set its sights on transforming the way the world reimagines and rebuilds its communities.
Strong Towns challenges conventional thinking, pushes boundaries, and provides fresh perspectives on urban development
The goal of Strong Towns is not just to inspire a new generation of urbanists, but to empower them to take action and drive change in their local communities by having meaningful conversations and making small bets.
What’s happening locally in London?
Strong Towns London was formed in 2024 with the goal of providing a platform for Londoners to gather around common interests and help build a city that we can all be proud of.
By creating a space to discuss local issues and pursue local goals, we set the stage for Strong Towns London to make a big impact on the city we all call home.
Our members have a broad range of backgrounds, interests, priorities, and motivations, yet everyone shares a common goal of making our city more liveable for all Londoners, by building it from the bottom up.

Strong Towns has 5 Campaigns

Incremental Housing Everywhere
To fight back against the housing crisis, London needs to take a hard look at broken zoning regulations, as well as open the door to rapid incremental development.

Safe & Productive Streets
To save lives and build a better financial future for our communities, London needs to make sure every street is both safe and productive.

End Parking Mandates
London is wasting valuable land and money by mandating too much parking. To make space for new homes and businesses, London must end parking minimum mandates.

End Highway Expansion
We built highways to connect our towns, but we never stopped building them. To protect our city from ruin, London has to end highway expansion.

Transparent Local Accounting
Most cities are caught up in a Growth Ponzi Scheme. For London to keep its promises and build a prosperous city for generations to come, it needs strong local finance.
